Aquino Elementary School, one of Quezon City’s largest learning institutions, reported at least 8,500 enrollees for School Year 2025–2026. <em>Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN News </em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed government agencies to boost safety measures in schools following the spate of campus violence in the country and called on parents to be more present in their children’s lives.  </p><p>In a vlog published Saturday, June 27, the chief executive recounted the <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/6/22/alleged-school-shooting-reported-in-tacloban-1034">school shooting</a> incident in Tacloban, Leyte involving minors and killed three students and injured several others, and the stabbing incidents in separate schools in Cavite.</p><p>“Ayon sa mga paunang ulat, posibleng may kaugnayan sa bullying ang mga pangyayari — isang bagay na kinakaharap ng maraming kabataan ngayon. Nakakadurog talaga ng puso,” he said.</p><p>The president emphasized the need to protect the youth from harm, neglect and suffering.</p><p>“Magkaiba man ang mga pangyayaring ito, iisa ang mensaheng ipinapakita nila sa atin: Kailangan maprotektahan ang ating mga kabataan, maprotektahan laban sa karahasan, maprotektahan laban sa kapabayaan, maprotektahan laban sa panganib, at maprotektahan laban sa mga tahimik at pinagdaraanan at pasaning dinadala ng marami sa kanila,” Marcos Jr. said. </p><p>“Kaya naman, inatasan ko ang ating mga ahensya sa edukasyon, kapulisan, kalusugan at lokal na pamahalaan na higit pang palakasin ang mga hakbang para sa kaligtasan ng mga mag-aaral sa buong bansa,” he added. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/6/26/one-critically-wounded-student-in-tacloban-shooting-now-out-of-danger-deped-1559">One critically wounded student in Tacloban shooting &#x27;now out of danger&#x27;—DepEd</a></div><p>The chief executive further underscored that schools should be a haven for learning and development and not causing concern among parents for their children’s safety.</p><p>While recognizing the need for greater government action, Marcos Jr. also urged parents to take an active part in their children’s lives.</p><p>“Ngunit hindi sapat ang pagkilos ng pamahalaan lamang. Dapat manatiling aktibong bahagi ng buhay ng kanilang mga anak, ang mga magulang,” he said.</p><p>He also urged teachers to ensure that safety protocols are strictly observed both inside and outside of schools.</p><p>“Dapat ipagpatuloy ng mga guro ang kanilang tungkulin, hindi lamang bilang tagapagturo, kundi bilang mga gabay at tagapayo. Dapat rin tiyakin ng mga paaralan na mahigpit na nasusunod ang mga panuntunan sa kaligtasan. Sa loob man ng silid-aralan, sa mga field trip, training camp, o iba pang mga gawain pang eskwela,” Marcos Jr. said.</p><p>The chief executive also underscored the need to restore respect for human life and values in society.</p><p>“At bilang isang lipunan, kailangan maibalik ang pagpapahalaga sa buhay ng tao. Pagtuturo ng tamang asal, pag-uugali, at pag-iisip. Higit pa sa anumang leksyon sa silid-aralan,” he noted. At ang paghingi ng tulong ay hindi kailanman tanda ng kahinaan,” he said.</p><p>“Sa mga magulang naman, huwag maliitin ang halaga ng isang simpleng pag-uusap kasama ang inyong anak. Minsan, ang pinakamahalagang proteksyong maibigay natin sa ating mga anak ay ang ating oras, atensyon, at pag-unawa.
