Domingo, Senate Social Media Unit) </em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — Members of the August Twenty-One Movement (ATOM), together with Tindig Pilipinas and several civil society organizations, held another “Walk for Justice” along Ayala Avenue in Makati on Sunday, renewing calls for accountability over alleged corruption in government and urging the Senate to proceed with the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.</p><p>The protest coincided with Makati City’s weekly Carless Sunday program, with participants gathering at Ayala Triangle Gardens before marching along Ayala Avenue. </p><p>The activity concluded with a short program at the Ninoy Aquino Monument that featured speeches, prayers, and the singing of “Bayan Ko.”</p><p>According to the organizers, the event is part of the continuing “ROAR! Francis Escudero, one of two lawyers in the Senate&#x27;s majority bloc, should not be assigned presiding officer “in order for [the trial] to start and proceed without taint and bias.”</p><p>Escudero, as Senate president, was heavily criticized for a perceived delay in proceeding to trial. The Supreme Court later voided Duterte&#x27;s impeachment that year as unconstitutional.</p><p>“His disregard of ‘forthwith’ led us to this day, and the catastrophic dramatics of Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, Sen. Ronald ‘Bato’ dela Rosa, Sen. Robin Padilla, and the other members of their bloc would never have happened,” the group said.</p><p>Members of the Senate majority bloc have been hinting at Escudero’s possible return as presiding officer of Duterte’s impeachment trial.</p><p><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/6/17/lacson-says-escudero-to-preside-over-sara-duterte-impeachment-trial-1602">Sen. In response, Bohol labeled the former Senate president &quot;Alan Peter Duterte&quot;.</p><p>Historian and ATOM member Xiao Chua said the movement draws inspiration from the country’s pro-democracy movement while emphasizing that its members oppose corruption regardless of political affiliation.</p><p>Chua rejected claims that members of the so-called “yellow” movement have sided with the Marcoses.</p><p>“Sinasabi nila na ang mga dilaw daw ay pumapanig sa mga Marcos. Pero alam niyo, hindi totoo ’yan. Kaming mga dilaw, lalo na yung mga nanatiling dilaw sa matagal na panahon, kahit sinong kurap, dapat panagutin,” he said.</p><p>He said the movement is willing to criticize any public official if there is evidence of wrongdoing</p><p>“Hindi rin kami takot na magsabi kung may mga kasamang kailangan i-call out din sila, lalo na kung may ebidensya,” Chua added.</p><p>Protester Mike Marcaida also urged supporters to continue pressing for accountability.</p><p>“Dapat tayong maningil sa mga taong nagtraydor sa ating inang bayan.
