Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) and concerned local police units have been directed to increase police visibility and establish strategic checkpoints around the Senate as a preventive security measure.</p><p>“Our current posture around the Senate is one of heightened vigilance but calibrated restraint. Our deployment is strictly precautionary and proactive,” Nartatez said in a statement.</p><p>The PNP said heightened political developments have fueled public debate and raised the possibility of protest actions near key government institutions, prompting authorities to bolster security measures.</p><p>Nartatez stressed that the police force remains nonpartisan and that the increased presence around the Senate is not meant to interfere with lawful assemblies.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/6/1/senate-majority-no-show-in-supposed-monday-session-2005">Senate majority no show in supposed Monday session</a></div><p>&quot;The PNP remains entirely apolitical. Our sole mandate here is to maintain public order, manage traffic flow, and ensure that the Senate can conduct its vital legislative functions without any external disruption,&quot; Nartatez said.</p><p>Aside from deploying more officers, the PNP is coordinating with Senate security officials, local government units, and traffic management authorities to ensure a coordinated response in areas that may be affected by demonstrations.</p><p>Police units have likewise been instructed to continuously monitor potential threats and conduct intelligence assessments while respecting the public’s right to peaceful assembly.</p><p>The PNP chief also called on groups planning rallies to keep their activities peaceful and orderly.</p><p>“We appeal to the organizers of these planned rallies to keep their activities peaceful and orderly.
