<p>House Deputy Speaker Janette Garin defended Wednesday the <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/6/2/house-panel-recommends-kiko-barzaga-s-expulsion-1825">expulsion</a> of Congressman Kiko Barzaga from the House of Representatives, saying the neophyte lawmaker never took the job seriously despite multiple suspensions. </p><p>&quot;Hindi niya sineseryoso &#x27;yung kanyang trabaho. He look at it as playful at kapag merong taga-bulong, ipo-post niya sa FB, gagawa siya ng mga statements. Gaya nitong huli, ang dami niyang statements against senators despite the fact that he was suspended patuloy-tuloy pa rin,&quot; she said. </p><p>Barzaga was expelled from the House Monday, following a vote of 265-14-8.</p><p>He has been suspended twice by the House for inflammatory Facebook posts including insults against President Bongbong Marcos and a recently deceased congressman, jokes about setting the Batasang Pambansa building on fire and accusations of lawmakers pocketing multimillion-peso bribes. </p><p>He is also facing a cyberlibel complaint after accusing tycoon Enrique Razon of bribing lawmakers. </p><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TYxDbNq_4t4?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div><p>National Bureau of Investigation Director Melvin Matibag earlier filed an ethics complaint against Barzaga over what he called &quot;untrue&quot; claims that there were several dead in the May 13 shooting inside the Senate. </p><p>Recently, Barzaga also accused Congress of &quot;stealing electricity&quot;, which caused the recent yellow alert in Luzon and the Visayas.</p><p>&quot;Ang pinapalabas niya, ninakaw daw ng Congress ang kuryente kaya nagkakaroon ng yellow alert. Alam naman namin na may mga challenges talaga siya when he was in school, &#x27;yung challenges niya when he was in city council of Dasmarinas,&quot; she said.</p><p>Garin said Barzaga&#x27;s expulsion was not harsh since he has had two 60-day suspensions already in the past six months.</p><p>&quot;I don&#x27;t think it&#x27;s harsh kasi nakadalawang suspension na siya. In fact, ang daming nakikiusap na pagbigyan siya but come to think about it, paano mo masisilbihan yung distrito mo kung ayaw mong mag-participate sa legislative works?&quot;</p><p>&quot;We have offered several times to mentor him. The problem is ayaw talaga niya.&quot;</p><p>In the interview, Garin said she would leave it up to the Speaker if there will be a caretaker who will take over Cavite&#x27;s 4th district after Barzaga&#x27;s expulsion. </p><p>Commission on Elections Chairman George Garcia said the poll body will need to deliberate on the need to hold special elections for Cavite&#x27;s 4th District.</p><p>&quot;Nakalagay sa Saligang Batas na kung sakaling may special election, ito ay hindi mas maaga ng 60 araw pagkatapos ng vacancy at hindi dapat sosobra ng 90 araw,&quot; he said in a separate interview. </p><p>&quot;Ang 60 araw ay August 2 at lalabas ang 90 araw ay September 2.&quot;</p>
