Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Teachers paint and decorate their classrooms in preparation for the upcoming school opening at Kapitbahayan Elementary School in Navotas City on June 2, 2026. <em>Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA -- The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Sunday said it is fully prepared for the deployment of its personnel for the opening of classes, or “Balik-Eskwela 2026” on June 8. </p><p>According to MMDA General Manager Nicolas Torre III, personnel will focus on traffic management and crowd control in various areas across Metro Manila.</p><p>“Kung anong nakikita niyong deployment, yun nga lang, mag-shift siguro. Ang iba ay nag-shift na sa mga malalapit muna sa eskwelahan,” said Torre. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/09/08/22/teachers-to-get-p1000-for-national-teachers-month"><strong>Teachers to get P1,000 for National Teachers&#x27; Month: DepEd</strong></a></div><p>“Pag umaga at mag-rush hour at nakita natin na dito sa opening, na-anticipate na natin. May mga minamap l-out na kami sa iba-ibang mga lugar, lalo na yung mga high population ng mga eskwelahan. Doon may tutok rin tayo ng mga tao natin.”</p><p>Torre added that the agency has completed the repair and installation of lane markings, traffic signs, and traffic lights in various locations, particularly near schools. </p><p>“Tapos kasama na ngayon dyan, pinaigtingin natin yung ating technical, technological monitoring. May mga CCTVs, may mga additional tayong inilagay dyan. Tapos may mga NCAP, tapos mga signages,” Torre added.</p><p>The MMDA is also closely monitoring the possibility of sudden heavy rains as the rainy season has begun.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/5/31/-nakakalito-parents-struggle-with-school-shopping-decisions-as-deped-calendar-changes-1612"><strong>‘Nakakalito’: Parents struggle with school shopping decisions as DepEd calendar changes</strong></a></div><p>“May mga pumping stations tayo diyan na mga permanent talaga at sinisiguro natin na gumagana at ang naiwan na lang na gawin pag, halimbawa, kulang pa ang capacity ng pumping stations ay nagde-deploy tayo ng mobile pumping stations.”</p><p>Meanwhile, the Malabon City government has already conducted clearing operations in creeks and drainage systems to mitigate flooding. </p><p>“Maging alerto po tayo. Lagi pong nakaantabay sa mga nagaganap sa ating paligid. Kung kinakailangan po na huwag papasukin ‘yong mga anak natin kung kinakailangan dahil delikado na, huwag na po nating hintayin na magkaroon pa ng insidente,” said Roderick Tongol, head of the Malabon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).</p><p>Based on the latest data from the Department of Education, more than 26 million students have enrolled for School Year 2026–2027. </p><p>The figure is slightly higher than the more than 25 million enrollees recorded during the previous school year.</p><div> </div>
