<div>Public urged to verify used cars before purchase</div>MANILA - The National Bureau of Investigation – Organized and Transnational Crime Division (NBI-OTCD) has 2 suspects for their alleged involvement in a &quot;talon-casa&quot; vehicle fraud scheme that victimized a buyer who lost more than ₱1 million. The case stemmed from a complaint filed by a victim who purchased a second-hand SUV.When the vehicle and its documents were examined by the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG), authorities found that the chassis number had been tampered with and that the Official Receipt and Certificate of Registration (OR/CR) belonged to a different registered owner.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/6/6/lider-7-miyembro-ng-carnapping-group-tiklo-sa-cellphone-tracker-0800">Lider, 7 miyembro ng carnapping group, tiklo sa cellphone tracker</a></div>According to NBI spokesperson Palmer Mallari, the scheme involves disguising financed vehicles as legitimate units for sale.&quot;Hahanapan nila ng kaparehong sasakyan, kokopyahin ang plaka, ita-tamper ang chassis number at gagawa ng pekeng Certificate of Registration. Authorities are also evaluating appropriate charges in connection with the suspected illegal drugs.The NBI is continuing its investigation to determine whether other buyers may have fallen victim to the same scheme. The bureau urged the public to have second-hand vehicles inspected by the PNP Highway Patrol Group before making any payment.&quot;Dalhin muna sa PNP Highway Patrol Group para sa macro-etching.
