MANILA — Eight former bodyguards of fugitive former lawmaker Zaldy Co have signed their affidavits for the Ombudsman’s investigation into former House Speaker Martin Romualdez’s alleged involvement in the flood control project mess. Their lawyer, Levi Baligod, said the signing of the affidavits were accomplished at the Office of the Ombudsman on Friday.“Done na po ang signing ng affidavits ng initial 8 witnesses,” Baligod told reporters in a message.Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano recently said Baligod “seems to be delaying the signatures” as it could have been signed as early as June 20.Clavano added that the delay slowed down their work on the case against Romualdez.Eighteen former bodyguards of Co previously alleged that he instructed them to deliver suitcases of money to a number of government officials.But the Ombudsman is focusing on the testimonies of only eight former bodyguards as they have alleged first-hand actual knowledge on the alleged deliveries according to Clavano.Romualdez has repeatedly denied receiving kickbacks.The anti-graft body is also pushing to make former Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan a state witness to shed light on Romualdez&#x27;s alleged involvement.Romualdez was the House Speaker when Co chaired the appropriations panel, which is responsible for the national budget deliberations.
