<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:960px;display:block" width="960"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1783296364855739276850_1447190127433709_8519235916323316215_n (1).jpg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. returned to the Philippines Sunday as he concluded his four-day official visit in Vancouver, Canada, bringing  home billions worth of investment pledges from Canadian partners. <em>PCO/Facebook</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. returned to the Philippines Sunday as he concluded his four-day official visit in Vancouver, Canada, bringing  home billions worth of investment pledges from Canadian partners.</p><p>PR001 — the callsign of the aircarft carrying the president and the Philippine delegation — landed at the Villamor Airbase on Sunday, July 5 at 3:56 p.m.</p><p>During his visit, Marcos Jr. had a one-on-one meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and announced an elevated bilateral relations to &quot;strategic partnership&quot; between the two countries.</p><p>Carney called it &quot;launching a new era of cooperation&quot; with deepening collaboration in trade and energy, defense and tourism.</p><p>&quot;We have a prospect of tripling our bilateral trade both directions by 2035, great opportunities for business,&quot; he noted.</p><p>The Philippine leader meanwhile tasked Foreign Affairs Secretary Maria Teresa Lázaro to work with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand in creating a &quot;plan of action&quot; which will focus on joint initiatives that will help both countries &quot;adapt to shifting global realities, address shared challenges, and build capacities for future ready partnerships.&quot;</p><p>The two leaders also committed to finalize negotiations for the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the Philippines a and another with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) by the upcoming summit this year with Philippines as host.</p><p>Marcos and the Philippine delegation also held an expanded bilateral meeting with their Canadian counterparts that yielded agreements namely Joint Declarations of Intent concerning energy and natural resources, labor and migration and cultural cooperation and a Memorandum of Understanding on tourism cooperation.</p><p>They also agreed to pursue new collaborations in certain niche areas such as mining, critical minerals, nuclear energy and in space.</p><p>The chief executive along with his economic Cabinet secretaries also attended roundtable discussions with Canadian businesses in the sectors of mining, critical minerals, energy and information technology - business process management.</p><p>“All these business engagements in the sectors of mining, critical minerals, energy, services, and IT BPM resulted in a combined US$2.5 billion in investment from Canadian partners,” Marcos said in a press briefing before departing Vancouver Saturday, July 4.</p><p>Marcos also met with members of Filipino community who came to Vancouver from various parts of Canada.</p><p>There, he recognized the contributions and reputation of Filipinos in Canada and renewed his vow of making overseas work a choice instead of a necessity.</p><p>Marcos together with Carney, also visited a branch of Filipino fast-food restaurant chain Jollibee in Granville, Vancouver where they interacted with customers and staff.</p><p>However, Marcos was met with protesters slamming his visit while citing various issues back home including lack of job opportunities and the flood control scandal.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO</strong></div><div><strong><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/6TiBiUywxgw?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span></strong><br/></div>
