Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News/File </span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The Philippine Department of Budget and Management is spearheading the Open Gov Week, a week-long event of the international body Open Government Partnership.</p><p>Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, who chairs the Philippine Open Gov Partnership, said the country has been leading efforts to push for open and good governance in the region. Local governments also need to embrace reforms to push for a more open, transparent, participatory, and accountable government.</p><p>Pangandaman vowed to advocate for the passage of the Freedom of Information (FOI) bill in the next Congress. She said many local governments are already implementing this good governance measure. </p><p>“I am proud to note that 88 local government units have enacted their own FOI ordinances, demonstrating the power of local government in driving change in our communities,” Pangandaman said.</p><p>Several local government units (LGUs) shared their best practices as they also learn from other LGUs on how to improve government processes.</p><p>“Initiatives on open governance like participatory budgeting and more enhanced citizen participation, gender balanced and development,” said DBM Usec. Wilford Wong on what some LGUs presented.</p><p>Officials said pushing for a transparent, participatory, and accountable government is not only good for the citizens, but it will also drive more investments and improve the economy.</p><p>Wong added, “Investors would come in more because there is transparency, there is open governance, they can see where the money of the people go and how it is being spent.”</p><p>The Open Gov Week will happen the entire week from May 19-23, 2025 in the Philippines and other members of the Open Government Partnership.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/2/7/dbm-wants-transparent-budget-procurement-processes-1008">DBM wants transparent budget, procurement processes</a></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO:</strong></div><div style="text-align:center"><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/dioNW02Wu1Y?si=hre0nYs7ORy2opYV" title="YouTube video player" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe><br/></div>
