Around P2-B in standby funds for those affected by Kanlaon: DSWD

MANILA (UPDATED/CORRECTED) – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) still has around P2-billion worth of standby funds and stockpiles, which would be able to help those affected by Kanlaon Volcano’s eruption last week and other calamities, the agency said on Saturday. In a news forum, Social Welfare Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao said they already provided  P14.7 million worth of humanitarian assistance to 4,600 families or 42,000 individuals in Western and Central Visayas. &quot;As we speak ongoing ang DSWD particularly our field offices sa pakikipag coordinate sa mga LGUs para maaddress natin or matugunan yung mga pangangailangan nung mga naapektuhan nating kababayan lalong lalo na yung mga nasa evacuation centers,&quot; said Dumlao. &quot;Tinitiyak ng DSWD as the lead also in camp coordination and camp management in the protection of IDPs na may mga space spaces for women and children sa lahat ng mga evacuation centers,&quot; she added.Aside from these, the agency vowed to help farmers affected by the eruption.
