MANILA -- The Land Transportation Office says traffic is starting to ease along the Andaya Highway particularly in Brgy. Lupi in Camarines Sur, where eroded portions of the road have caused heavy traffic during the holiday rush.

According to LTO Bicol Regional Director Francisco Ranches, traffic is now light to moderate on both the northbound and southbound lanes after the DPWH were able to fix at least 3 of the 4 eroded portions of the highway.

Authorities expect repairs on the last eroded part of the road to be completed by today or tomorrow, he said.

As much as possible ayaw namin silang hulihin, pero kung magpipilit sila we have no choice kundi bigyan sila ng ticket," he continued.

The official says the LTO continues to coordinate with the PNP, DPWH, and the LGU to manage the traffic situation in the area.

The LTO already started using drones to be able to monitor and quickly ease gridlocks along the highway, he said.

"Gumagamit na kami ng drone para mamonitor namin, kasi kung may bottleneck na kalsada, tumatakbo doon ang mga enforcers namin para mag-guide," he said.

Dozens of trips going to Bicol from the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) were delayed due to the damage sustained by the Andaya Highway.

According to PITX spokesperson Jason Salvador, 62 out of 113 bus trips were delayed on Thursday. At least 10 more trips were delayed on Friday due to late turnaround. Over 2,000 passengers were affected.

The repairs were finished on Saturday evening, according to the regional director of DPWH in Bicol. Virgilio Duarte said that as of Sunday morning, two-way traffic had been implemented along the highway.
