The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has started to gather details to identify the perpetrators in the ambush that killed 2 soldiers and injured 12 others in Sumisip,  Basilan.

Brig. Gen. Alvin Luzon, commander of the 101st Infantry Brigade based in Basilan, said they are now gathering information needed in the filing of cases, especially on the identities of those involved in the ambush.

“We already have initial coordination with the Basilan Provincial Police Office for our joint efforts in the filing of cases,” Luzon said, adding that they will leave it to the Philippine National Police (PNP), which is more familiar with filing criminal cases.

The possible charges would include murder, frustrated murder, homicide, arson and even gun ban violation, Luzon said.

According to him, the MILF-CCCH led by Butch Malang with his team from Central Mindanao, are expected to visit the MILF units in Basilan on Sunday for a Joint Verification.

On the part of the government, BGen. Nasser Lidasan, chair of GPH-CCCH, also visited the troops in Basilan on Thursday.

Meanwhile, MILF-CCCH Basilan HeadvHadji Samad Ahadin emphasized that the MILF leadership does not and never will tolerate such act, and those responsible for the ambush must be held liable.

He insisted though that no coordination was made before the troops went to the area, which resulted in the ambush.

According to Ahadin, the normalization agreement calls for prior coordination when government troops enter the MILF area.

But the military yesterday said coordination was made and that the "Area of Temporary Stay" that the MILF is insisting is already non-existent.
