2 Camarines Norte towns impose mandatory use of masks

Two towns in Camarines Norte - the capital of Daet and the town of Labo - have declared the mandatory use of face masks due to an increase in cases of flu-like illnesses, Camarines Norte Acting Gov. Joseph Ascutia said Thursday.Ascutia said the province has recorded 1,000 cases of flu-like illnesses since October 1, with the provincial hospital already exceeding its capacity of 150 beds.Asked if the mask mandate will be imposed in other towns, he said: “I cannot speak for the municipality of Daet and Labo pero sa akin po base sa ating probinsya, waiting kami ng advisory ng [Department of Health]. So far, wala pa naman po na information na sinasabi sa amin na kami ay magdeclare ng mandatory use of face masks.”Ascutia said the rise in flu cases is seasonal due to the changing weather patterns, according to the provincial health officer.Authorities have not suspended classes but advised students not to go to class if they feel unwell.The governor has also urged the public to practice social distancing especially in crowded places.The Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday announced the implementation of a wellness break for teachers and learners from October 27 to 30, where schools are encouraged to give teachers recovery time during this period.
