<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:617px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/176214405337220160618-kanlaon-volcano-AFP-4895.jpg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">This photo taken on June 18, 2016 shows plume of whitish-grey ash launching into the air, about 1.5 kilometres (almost a mile) from the crater of Mount Kanlaon, after an eruption, as seen from a village in Canlaon town, Negros Oriental province, central Philippines. - The rumbling volcano in the central Philippines shot a huge column of ash into the sky on June 18, prompting the official aviation agency to warn aircraft to stay away, authorities said. <em>Diego Santiago, AFP </em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA —  Heavy to intense rainfall from typhoon Tino could spawn lahar flows from Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said Monday.</p><p>Kanlaon Volcano, which is currently at Alert Level 2 or moderate level of unrest, recorded a <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2025/10/24/kanlaon-volcano-minor-eruption-sends-ash-2-000-meters-into-the-sky-2113">minor explosive eruption</a> on Oct. 24, sending ashfall to five surrounding municipalities. </p><p>Phivolcs warned that the rainfall from Tino could erode the remnants of volcanic materials emitted by Kanlaon.</p><p>In particular, potentially hot lahar and sediment-laden streamflows could occur along Tamburong/Ibid Creek in Biak-na-Bato, Baji-Baji Falls and Talaptapan Creek in Cabacungan, La Castellana, Negros Occidental and drainages that are headed on gullies covered by recent PDC deposits, the agency said. </p><p>&quot;Communities along and downstream of channels on the southern and western slopes are advised to be prepared in case evacuation becomes necessary and to avoid traversing affected streams even those farther downslope of the volcano,&quot; said Phivolcs.</p><p>As of 10 a.m. Monday, Tino was last monitored 285 km east southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.
