Powerful and violent winds are now battering the provinces of Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte on Monday night as Typhoon Tino approaches land.In Dinagat Islands, where Tino is expected to make its first landfall, Governor Nilo Demerey Jr. reported that many trees have already fallen, and power supply has been cut off in several areas.“The power was just cut here in San Jose, but our hospitals with generators are ready, and our electric cooperative and engineers are also on standby,” Demerey said.Around 20,000 individuals have been evacuated across the province of Dinagat Islands.In Surigao City, strong winds caused terrifying noises as the storm hammered roof sheets, doors, and windows.Many residents sought temporary shelter in hotels while the typhoon continued to intensify.Even the hotel where the ABS-CBN News team is staying has started to experience leaks from the ceiling.Since noon, Typhoon Tino has been unleashing its strength in Surigao City.Mayor Paul Dumlao has ordered the forced evacuation of 3,571 families as the weather became increasingly violent.Police officers, along with barangay officials, went house to house to force residents in landslide- and flood-prone areas to evacuate.Authorities also warned of possible storm surges, prompting the evacuation of residents living near the Boulevard area.Typhoon Tino brought back painful memories for residents of Surigao City, who still recall the devastation caused by Typhoon Odette in December 2021, which left many dead.According to residents, they did not hesitate to follow evacuation orders, not wanting to experience the same suffering again.“Oh sir, this typhoon is really frightening, but we thank God our local government is concerned for us, so we’re following their advice,” said resident Daday Ichitan.“I’m afraid our wooden house might collapse, especially since we have two small children,” said Leonila Betasula, another resident.Mayor Paul Dumlao assured that the city was well-prepared for Typhoon Tino and ready to respond to any emergencies.“We have enough and stable supplies of basic goods,” said Dumlao.Surigao City is now experiencing a blackout after the power supply went out around 9:25 on Monday night.<div> </div><div>RELATED VIDEO:</div><div><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/SNpGNCoiiBU?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe> </div>
