RIZAL — Hundreds of vehicles were caught in standstill traffic along the junction of Sumulong Highway and Marcos Highway in Antipolo City on Saturday evening, December 6.Commuter Kim Seno said the heavy traffic in the area has been a persistent problem.“Halos ayaw na mag sakay ng mga jeep or Bajaj, halos every day ganoon routine. Sanay na, pero yung sa Marcos Highway, grabe sa nakaka-stress,” she said. The Antipolo Office of Public Safety and Security (OPSS) said the congestion was due to the high volume of vehicles headed toward Marikina, Cubao in Quezon City, and to Cainta.The presence of U-turn slots along the highway further contributed to the slow movement of traffic.The OPSS immediately coordinated with Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Cubao for traffic management assistance. Traffic eased and became light around 12:06 a.m. on Sunday, December 7.Heavy traffic was also observed along Marilaque Highway, where some commuters opted to just walk.In light of traffic management, the Antipolo LGU will also implement a dry run of the modified truck ban on Monday, December 9. The truck ban will be implemented from 5 am to 8 am and 5 pm to 8 pm.Commuters also approve of the truck ban that can help ensure their safety.“Sana po talaga kase lately sobrang nakakatakot na lumabas kase andaming aksidente dahil sa mga truck na yan na para bang hari sila ng daan,” Seno added.
