MANILA -- The municipal board of canvassers (MBOC) in Solano, Nueva Vizcaya resolved late Monday a tie in the race for senior municipal councilor with a coin toss.

Clifford Tito, an optometrist, and Thomas Dave Santos, a business, garnered the highest number of votes for the post, with each candidate receiving 1,351 votes during Monday's midterm election. Both candidates ran for the position for the first time.

The MBOC venue was filled with cheers and excitement as the two municipal-elects bantered over who should give way, until it was decided that a coin toss would settle the matter.

A tie in the elections can be settled by "drawing of lots," though coin tosses are also acceptable, according to the Commission on Elections.

In the end, Santos, 27, won through the toss coin.

Santos is the youngest municipal councilor of Solano, besting 21 other candidates for the highest post.
