MANILA — A magnitude 5.2 earthquake rocked Davao del Norte before noon on Monday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

The epicenter of the tremor was 4 kilometers southeast of Santo Tomas town, Phivolcs said in its initial bulletin.

The tectonic quake struck at around 11:41 a.m. and had a 32-kilometer depth.

While damage to property is not expected, aftershocks could follow, the agency warned.

Residents can expect aftershocks as strong as magnitude 4.2 to last "several days to weeks," Phivolcs Director Teresito Bacolcol told TeleRadyo Serbisyo.

Instrumental Intensities were recorded in the following areas:

Intensity III – San Fernando, Bukidnon; Magpet and Kidapawan City, Cotabato; Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental

Intensity II – M'lang, Cotabato; Matanao, Davao del Sur; Nabunturan, Davao de Oro

Intensity I – Kalilangan, Libona, and Malitbog, Bukidnon; Magsaysay and Davao City, Davao del Sur; Balingasag and Initao, Misamis Oriental

Instrumental Intensity means the quake has been detected and recorded by intensity meters installed by Phivolcs, and it may or may not be felt by residents.
