Davao del Sur, Compostela in Davao de Oro require face masks amid mpox cases

MANILA — Davao del Sur province and the town of Compostela in Davao de Oro have made face masks and strict adherence to health protocols mandatory in response to monkeypox cases reported in parts of Mindanao.

Mpox cases in South Cotabato rise to 10

Davao del Sur Gov. Yvonne Cagas issued Executive Order No. 20, Series of 2025, on May 28.

Compostela Mayor Levi Ebdao issued Executive Order No. 40, Series of 2025, on May 29.

WHERE FACE MASKS ARE REQUIRED

• Markets

• Public transportation

• Offices

• Schools

• Churches

• Business establishments

• Similar indoor public and enclosed spaces

Face masks are also required in crowded outdoor areas where physical distancing cannot be maintained, as well as in healthcare facilities.

MANDATORY HEALTH PROTOCOLS

• Maintain a physical distance of at least one meter in public

• Frequent handwashing

• Ensuring adequate ventilation in enclosed spaces

• Disinfecting homes, offices, and public places.

Those who fail to follow health guidelines may face sanctions

This decision follows the confirmation of one case of monkeypox in the town of Magsaysay, Davao del Sur.
