MANILA – Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto on Tuesday lauded the Eastern Police District (EPD) for achieving a five-minute response time to incidents, adding the local government is ready to deploy additional force multipliers to sustain and strengthen the initiative.

“’Yong five minutes or less, kaya na ng ating kapulisan eh. Kaya nakakabilib nga talaga ang ating kapulisan. I really commend the Eastern Police District, our Pasig Central Police Station dahil ilang araw pa lang naman mula no’ng magkaroon tayo ng direktiba pero nagawa na po nila kaagad,” Sotto said.

(Our police can now respond in five minutes or less. That’s really impressive. I commend the Eastern Police District and our Pasig Central Police Station because it’s only been a few days since the directive was issued, yet they’ve already implemented it.)

Sotto emphasized that response from village security forces is also crucial, especially during the late hours, to help maintain security.

EPD head Brigadier General Aden Lagradante acknowledged that there are still limitations that could affect police response time, such as weather conditions, traffic, and area familiarity.

He also emphasized the need to plan police deployment thoroughly and improve police resources, such as acquiring additional motorcycles.

To maximize visibility, the EPD has deactivated its substations and redeployed police personnel directly to the ground.

“Optimistic tayo na lalong bababa ang crime rate dito sa EPD. Because of the latest program ng ating Chief PNP, lalong bababa,” said Lagradante, noting that the EPD currently records the lowest crime incidents in Metro Manila.

PNP Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III earlier promised the public that officers would respond to 911 calls within five minutes in Metro Manila.

Police also aim to reduce response time to three minutes after three months.

In a separate media briefing, PNP spokesperson Brigadier General Jean Fajardo said Torre is set to hold another command conference to get updates from police units in Metro Manila, other major regions, and provinces on the implementation of the five-minute response directive.

She also noted that mobility improvements are still needed and that responders could benefit from being equipped with body cameras.
