MANILA — Some 149 high school students in Isabela, Basilan were rushed to the hospital due to suspected heat exhaustion during their intramurals on Thursday. Students of the Basilan National High School started feeling dizzy and passing out during the opening parade for their intramurals at around 3 p.m., said Jaime Juancho Rivera of the Isabela City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.   Several ambulances, including those from nearby Lamitan City and other government offices, responded to attend to an initial batch of at least 50 students.At around the start of the parade, the temperature in Isabela City had reached 34.7 degrees Celsius, said PAGASA Zamboanga station weather observer Rodel Inclan. More students lost consciousness at about 5 p.m. as the intramurals continued.The Isabela City DRRMO data showed 149 students were admitted to several hospitals, while about 30 others either sought medical attention later in the day or were immediately brought home by their parents. As of 11 p.m. Thursday, most of the students have recovered and were discharged. <div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/life/06/28/23/heat-exhaustion-or-heatstroke-what-to-do-in-an-emergency">Heat exhaustion or heatstroke: what to do in an emergency</a></div>Rivera said they were still investigating the incident because some of the students who were hospitalized did not join the parade and were not exposed to the heat for too long.He said some of the students could have experienced anxiety attacks after seeing their friends who collapsed.The local government advised the school to suspend all outdoor activities related to the intramurals from midday to 4 p.m. <div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/weather-traffic/2025/7/6/extreme-heat-s-hidden-health-and-economic-toll-0845">Extreme heat&#x27;s hidden health and economic toll</a></div>
