Sol Aragones, around 5,000 families in the province are still sheltering in evacuation centers. <em>Deniz Datu, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span></div><p>LAGUNA — Leaders of the provinces of Laguna and La Union are appealing to the national government for additional assistance to meet the needs of thousands of families who have been displaced by flooding.</p><p>Laguna Gov. Sol Aragones said while some aid has already arrived from private sectors and family food packs have been distributed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, these have not been enough to support the sheer number of those affected by the rains and flooding.</p><p>“Umaapela tayo sa national government kung ano pa maitulong lalo na itong mga family food packs,” Aragones said.</p><p>(We are appealing to the national government for whatever help it can give, especially family food packs)</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>FLOOD DAMAGE IN LAGUNA<br/></strong></div><p>Laguna has declared a state of calamity with at least 5,000 families in evacuation centers after their communities were submerged by rain from the southwest monsoon and tropical cyclones Crising, Dante and Emong.</p><p>The cities of Biñan, San Pedro, Calamba, and Santa Rosa, as well as the municipalities of Bay, Pila, Victoria, and Sta. Cruz are among the worst hit in the province.</p><p>The total damage to agriculture and livestock across the province has reached P40 million.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/7/26/gaps-in-disaster-response-also-bring-risk-of-conflict-group-says-1335"><strong>Gaps in disaster response also bring risk of conflict, group says<br/></strong></a></div><div><br/></div><div><strong>MORE THAN P1-B STORM DAMAGE IN LA UNION</strong></div><p>In a press release, La Union Rep. Francisco Paolo Ortega V on Saturday also called for immediate assistance from the national government, citing large-scale damage to agriculture and infrastructure in the province.</p><p>“We’re looking at over P1 billion in agricultural, housing, and infrastructure losses across La Union. Kaya nananawagan ako ng tulong mula sa national agencies in helping our province recover from Typhoon Emong,” Ortega said.</p><p>He said that wjile aid has been distributed to some areas, many others remain inaccessible.</p><p>“We urgently call on the national government to send reinforcements for road clearing and power restoration so we can deliver assistance to every community,” he also said.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/weather-traffic/2025/7/26/tropical-depression-emong-exits-philippine-area-of-responsibility-1240"><strong>Tropical depression Emong exits Philippine area of responsibility<br/></strong></a></div><p>He also called on the Department of Public Works and Highways to help repair irrigation systems, drainage channels and roads, saying these need to be addressed quickly to help La Union recover faster.</p><p>“We need to treat this as a serious development setback that demands an equally serious response,” Ortega said.</p>
