<p>Energy Secretary Sharon Garin said new generator sets and solar panels will soon arrive in Siquijor where power blackouts have been a major problem for many residents.</p><p>This is on top of the deadline set by the government for the local power distributor to improve its service following complaints of 4 to 8 hours a day without power. </p><p>The energy chief said several gensets are broken in the island province.</p><p>“Meron kami deadline na before the end of the year dapat balik na sa normal, hindi na dapat 4-8 hours,” said Garin at the sideline of the inauguration of the Tanawon Geothermal Power Plant in Sorsogon.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2025/8/1/gov-t-eyes-return-of-24-7-power-in-siquijor-by-sunday-0835"><strong>Gov&#x27;t eyes return of 24/7 power in Siquijor by Sunday </strong></a></div><p>Garin assured residents that the issue is being resolved. New gensets are being procured, while solar panels will be installed in various public buildings.</p><p>“Meron kami solar project doon para sa LGU [local government unit], provincial government. We will put solar panels in all provincial buildings. That will happen December 1. On time yun. Meron kaming bagong procurement para sa mga additional gensets at additional solar panels,” she added.</p><p>The broken gensets are also being repaired, while a new power distribution system is also being studied.</p><p>&quot;Papaayos namin within the year - I think September or November - yung looping ng distribution ng Prosielco (Province of Siquijor Electric Cooperative). Kailangan mag synchronize ang dalawang planta ng Sipcor (Siquijor Island Power Corporation) at ayusin lahat ng gensets within the year, actually within 2 months,” Garin explained.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2025/7/30/unacceptable-20-hour-blackouts-cripple-siquijor-0918"><strong>Unacceptable: 20-hour blackouts cripple Siquijor </strong></a></div><p>DOE hopes the power supply issue in Siquijor can be fully resolved within the year. </p><p>The problem was highlighted by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at his State of the Nation Address and gave an order to restore normal power supply soon.</p><div> </div>
