Eduardo Timbol, the jeepney driver was declared dead-on-arrival at the hospital, while some of the injured were in critical condition and rushed to different hospitals.Investigation showed that the truck was swerving before it hit the approaching jeepney, causing it to overturn.“Yung drayber po ng [truck] natin ay medyo mabilis at nagsu-swerve po talaga sa kabilang lane kaya po na sideswipe niya yung jeep na tumaob naman po,” Timbol said.“According sa ating witness yung jeep naman po ay normal po ang speed,” he added.The truck driver fled the scene. He was found after a 6-hour search in the nearby mountains using five drones and four police teams from Cuenca and nearby towns.   “May isang certain part ng gubat po na pinagtaguan niya kasi natakot nga raw siya,” Timbol said. “We mobilize four different teams po para mahanap namin po siya  from the mobile force company and local po ng Cuenca,” he added.The truck driver and his helper refused to give interviews, on the advice of their company’s lawyer.Based on the investigation, the driver was traveling from Manila to Lemery when he allegedly lost control of his vehicle at a downhill part of the zigzag road.“Medyo mabilis ang takbo ng truck, nawalan ng control nasalpok itong passenger jeep,” Timbol said.“Ang sabi niya nawalan ng preno yung truck medyo delikado kasi ang daan na yun, zigzag talaga, for drivers na first time dadaan doon medyo mahihirapan talaga,” he added.The truck also rammed a store.Four of the jeepney’s 11 injured passengers have been discharged from the hospital.The truck driver was facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and multiple physical injuries.
