MANILA — The provincial government of Bulacan will launch its own probe into flood-control project anomalies, said Governor Daniel Fernando during a press conference on Monday.“Magkaroon po tayo ng sariling investigation, ang lalawigan ng Bulacan kasi gusto po namin malaman ano ba talaga ang nangyari sapagkat ang involved po dito ay ating mga kababayan na nagdusa… kung ano man ang magiging kalalabasan ng aming imbestigasyon, pwede namin ibabase sa aming legal action,” said Fernando.He added that they are willing to submit their findings to the Independent Commission on Infrastructure (ICI), an investigative body created by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to investigate alleged irregularities in infrastructure projects.“Hundred percent approve po kami dyan (sa ICI)… at kung kinakailangan ng tuong namin. Nandito po kami na tutulong po,” said Fernando.When asked who would be the initial members of their investigative body, he said it will be headed by him and Vice Governor Alexis Castro.“I think kasama yung mga sektor natin and then yung ating Sangguniang Panlalawigan bodies, me siguro as a chairman and Vice Governor is the Vice Chairman… ia-assure ko po sa inyo wala po kasi wala naman po nangyari sa aming ganon, di po kami involved doon, wala po kaming involvement sa mga corruption na nangyari,” he added.Fernando also claimed no participation in the irregularities since DPWH allegedly pushed through with the flood-control projects without coordinating with the province.“Nakalulungkot po kasi hindi po sila nagsubmit sa amin (ng masterplan)... kaya po nung nagiimbestiga na sila at nalaman yang mga anomalya sa flood control ay nasabi ko nga… wala akong alam. Ibig sabihin wala po kaming kinalaman dahil hindi ko alam kung saan iimbestigahan, saan namin titignan?”Bulacan, which reportedly secured P43.5 billion in flood control contracts from 2021 to 2024, was earlier tagged as “most notorious in terms of anomalies” by Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson. Several DPWH officials in the province have already been dismissed amid the scandal.
