Handout/PAGASA</div>MANILA -- More than 2,700 individuals have been preemptively evacuated across Northern and Central Luzon as Super Typhoon Nando continues to intensify, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) reported Sunday evening.As of 7:50 PM, a total of 935 families or 2,777 residents have been relocated to safer areas amid warnings of destructive winds, torrential rains, and the threat of storm surges, flooding, and landslides.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/weather-traffic/2025/9/21/super-typhoon-nando-to-intensify-as-it-moves-closer-to-northern-luzon-1832">READ: Super typhoon &#x27;Nando&#x27; intensifies, bears down on northern Luzon</a></div>The DILG said the bulk of evacuations were carried out in:-- Cagayan – 679 families / 1,975 individuals-- Aurora – 113 families / 359 individuals-- Apayao – 100 families / 306 individualsEvacuation operations were also reported in several other provinces, including:-- Ilocos Norte-- Batanes, Isabela, and Nueva Vizcaya in Region II-- Various municipalities in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR)&quot;The Department commends LGUs and frontline responders for acting decisively, underscoring that preemptive evacuation is both a duty of government and a responsibility of communities to safeguard lives,&quot; the DILG said in a statement. With Nando expected to batter northern provinces in the coming hours, the DILG reiterated its directive for LGUs to enforce mandatory evacuations in high-risk barangays, implement liquor bans, uphold the no-sail policy for all coastal and fishing communities, and endure that evacuation centers are fully equipped with food, water, and medical supplies. The DILG stressed that cooperation from residents is crucial during disasters.&quot;Residents in danger areas and low-lying communities are strongly urged to heed the call of the DILG to voluntarily comply with preemptive evacuation in order to prevent loss of lives,&quot; the DILG said. &quot;The Department emphasizes that homes and property can be rebuilt, but lives lost can never be replaced.&quot;PAGASA continues to issue regular bulletins on Super Typhoon Nando, which remains a major threat to Northern Luzon. At 7 p.m. Sunday, Nando was located 410 km east of Aparri, Cagayan. It now packs winds of 195 kph near its center with gustiness up to 240 kph.Wind signal no. 3 still up in Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and northeastern mainland Cagayan.Wind signals no. 4 and 5 may be raised late Sunday over Batanes and Babuyan Islands, where the super typhoon may make landfall or pass very close to between Monday afternoon and evening.Nando may be out of the Philippine area of responsibility early Tuesday.Authorities are urging the public to monitor official channels and avoid the spread of unverified information.
