Gov't races to help Masbate, seeks return of commercial flights

The national government is racing to help the island province of Masbate and neighboring areas following the devastation wrought by severe tropical storm Opong.Speaking to ANC&#x27;s Headstart, Office of Civil Defense Deputy Administrator for Administration Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV said at least 27 people have been killed by Opong and previous storms.“Right now our focus is in Masbate dahil doon po talaga nasentro ‘yung bagyo and doon nga maraming fatalities doon…Meron tayong reported na nine na doon sa Masbate. So ang problema po doon talaga ngayon kuryente, communication and ‘yung pag-restore ng mga housing needs po nila,”  Alejandro said Monday.Alejandro said one problem that the government wants quickly addressed is the lack of commercial flights going to Masbate even though the airport is open.“Wala pong commercial flight po. Yun po ang hindi pa po nag-resume. That&#x27;s why isa po ‘yan sa hinihiling ni Governor na kung pwede mag-resume na po ng flight ang ating Cebu Pacific doon. But the airport is functional. Ang problema lang po kuryente but naka-generator set naman po sila. Nag-install na rin tayo ng communication augmentation doon. Nandoon ang DICT para continuous po ang communications doon sa airport,” he said.
