<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1774070724576651266663_1265063632400581_8402389340118090068_n.jpg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/>Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog handout photo</div>BATANGAS — The Philippine Coast Guard rescued 32 passengers from a fishing banca that took on water off Barangay Punta in Calatagan, Batangas, on Thursday while heading to a swimming trip.According to the Philippine Coast Guard Southern Tagalog District, its sub-station in Balayan received a distress call from a concerned individual regarding the sinking of FBca Prince 2 around 1 p.m.Units from Balayan and Calatagan immediately conducted search and rescue operations.A passing fishing banca rescued an initial 14 passengers and response teams later spotted the remaining 18 approximately 800 meters from the shoreline of Barangay Baha in Calatagan.Among those rescued were an infant and 20 children.Authorities said the vessel departed from Barangay Navotas in Balayan and was bound for Calatagan for a swimming trip when it was struck by large waves.Coast Guard Southern Tagalog District said the operator of the fishing banca may face multiple violations, including unauthorized use of the vessel for recreational activities, departure without clearance from the Philippine Coast Guard, failure of the vessel master to accomplish the Master’s Declaration of Safe Departure, and alleged connivance between the ship owner and the vessel master.
