Handout/DOJ" width="960"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Police present the rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) as a piece of evidence in the Justice Department&#x27;s probe into the ambush of Datu Akmad “Mitra” Ampatuan. <em>Handout/DOJ</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The Philippine National Police presented before prosecutors on Tuesday the rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) firing tube used in the January ambush of Datu Akmad “Mitra” Ampatuan as part of the ongoing preliminary investigation at the Department of Justice (DOJ).</p><p><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/1/26/shariff-aguak-mayor-survives-4th-slay-try-credits-armored-suv-for-saving-his-life-1343">Ampatuan survived the attack</a> while inside his armored vehicle during the ambush in Maguindanao del Sur, which was caught on CCTV footage. Ampatuan’s lawyer, Cyrus Torreña, said prosecutors earlier ordered the presentation of the RPG for inspection in connection with the complaint for alleged violation of Republic Act No. 11479, or the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020.</p><p>He said the RPG was brought from Maguindanao del Sur by forensic personnel traveling by land because the explosive device could not be transported by airplane.</p><p>“As to all object evidence, nai-submit na namin especially yung RPG… We have a lot of videos, so yun ang pinaka-consideration ng ating mga piskal, yung records na previously submitted tsaka yung personal na pagdala ng RPG kung makapagtugma ba yung kanyang appearance,” said Torreña.</p><p>According to Torreña, the RPG will be turned over to the forensic office in Camp Crame.</p><p>The respondents, meanwhile, submitted their counter-affidavits during the hearing.</p><p>Torreña said that out of the 15 respondents, one failed to appear during the hearing and was granted additional consideration after citing lack of transportation funds.</p><p>Two respondents were not duly represented by legal counsel and were therefore unable to submit counter-affidavits, while 3 others were already dead.</p><p>Ampatuan’s camp was given until June 1 to file its reply affidavits after reviewing the submissions.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/5/18/shariff-aguak-mayor-hopes-anti-terror-cases-will-be-filed-in-court-over-rpg-attack-1652">Shariff Aguak mayor hopes anti-terror cases will be filed over RPG attack</a></div><div><br/></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO:</strong></div><div style="text-align:center"><iframe width="960" height="540" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/3WHTskTQPJE?si=aG-VpEaIxcByFTeP" title="YouTube video player" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div>
