<div><br/></div><p>MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. witnessed the ceremonial turnover of nearly 200 high-powered firearms from former rebels and residents in Sulu on Monday as he visited a new military base in the southern province.</p><p>The turnover of 195 high-powered firearms shows the “continuing gains of the government&#x27;s campaign against loose firearms and its efforts to preserve peace and public safety,” the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said in a statement.</p><div><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fpcogovph%2Fposts%2Fpfbid0yHY7fu8mpbFVpTnEsuj9DtU5CiQjKLsSs5qiajBpuaNUEF9HMXT5cNhZKnghV8DAl&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500" width="500" height="793" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>The President was also given a handcrafted Tausug kris, “symbolizing the rich cultural heritage and enduring spirit of the Tausug people.”</p><p>The 4-story Camp Hadji Suod B. Tan serves as the base of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) 9B in Maimbung, Sulu. The 1.8-hectare property includes barracks, firing ranges, a cafeteria, conference room, lecture hall, offices, and detention center.</p><p>It also features a power house, an elevated water tank, a drainage system, an internal road network, and security guard houses to support sustained operations. </p><p>Meanwhile, the President also met Sulu residents to share the government’s rice distribution project and the awarding of some P200,000 for every barangay.</p><p>“Mayroon tayong tig-10 na kilong sako ng bigas para sa ating mga benepisyaryo dito,” he said, noting that some 3,000 beneficiaries have been listed for the distribution of the staple grain.</p><p>“Huwag po kayo mag-alala. Ito po ay hindi minsanan lang,” he said. “Magbibigay kami ng sako ng bigas 6 na beses sa buong taon.
