<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:960px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/176093380799320251020041056_e3b0c44298fc1c149afbf4c8996fb92427ae41e4649b934ca495991b7852b855.png" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Photo from Meta, Microsoft Store</span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — Meta is shutting down the Windows and Mac versions of the Messenger app before the year ends.</p><p>The official Help Center website for Messenger notes that the PC versions of the popular messaging app &quot;is being deprecated,&quot; while some tech websites have placed the exact date on December 15, 2025.</p><p>After the service has been sunset, users will not be able to log into the app and instead be redirected either to the Facebook desktop app or website to view, send and receive messages.</p><p>Users will be shown an in-app notification about the shut down 60 days before they are blocked out from using the app.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>WHAT TO DO</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>Meta advises users to turn on secure storage and setup a PIN from their desktop app before moving to the web version of Messenger.</p><p>To do this, start by clicking the gear icon above your profile photo on the Messenger Windows or Mac app. Click &quot;Privacy &amp; safety&quot;, then go to &quot;End-to-end encrypted chats.&quot; Finally, click on &quot;Message storage&quot; and turn on secure storage.</p><p>Those who are using Messenger-only accounts will be redirected to the service&#x27;s website, where they can continue using Messenger without a Facebook account.</p><p>In 2014, Meta removed the in-app messaging service from the main Facebook app and required users to use the Messenger app to view, send and receive chats.</p>
