Arthur Fuentes, ABS-CBN News</div>MANILA – The Asus ExpertBook P5 is a thin, light, powerful, and (based on the number of certifications it has) exceptionally durable laptop that demonstrates just how serious the Taiwanese tech giant is about capturing a major share of the highly competitive commercial laptop market.  Asus made quite a splash last October when it announced its foray into this cutthroat market segment, where companies and government offices buy PCs and peripherals in bulk for their operations. Traditionally, the market has been dominated by Dell, HP and Lenovo, which Asus has simply labeled DHL. Asus said it wants to be the number one commercial PC brand in the Philippines within 3 years. So how does the Expertbook P5 fit in this grand plan?In a nutshell, this Lunar Lake Copilot PC fits perfectly in Asus’ lofty scheme. I’ve been using this laptop for several weeks now, and I have no complaints about its performance. Asus says its ExpertBook series of commercial notebooks have passed more US military durability tests than its competitors. Unlike consumer and gaming PCs, laptops and desktops meant for businesses and governments have additional requirements, such as added durability.I have no complaints about the build quality of the Expertbook P5. It is a solid piece of hardware. The body showed very little flex, and the rounded edges look very well machined. The hinge didn’t feel flimsy either.During the launch of the Expert series last month, Asus gamely demonstrated the uncanny toughness of these devices–they were dropped, stepped on, twisted, splashed on, made to carry kettlebells on their ports, and the lid even violently slammed shut while a pen was still on the keyboard. Arthur Fuentes, ABS-CBN News</div>In terms of design, the ExpertBook is unlikely to unseat Asus’ Zen series from the cutting edge. But these laptops were never meant to stand out in terms of looks in the first place. Not that they are ugly, but they look very business-like. They look more at home in corporate conference rooms than in artsy cafes, and that’s how it should be.Like many laptops designed for work, the Expertbook P5 has a screen with a 16:10 ratio, which means users can see more of what the documents they are working on compared to a more entertainment-oriented 16:9 screen.I also like the anti-reflective matte finish on the display, which greatly reduces glare. At 400 nits, it’s not the brightest screen out there, but the 144Hz certainly helps make scrolling through documents much smoother and more pleasant. And as befits a work notebook, it has a 100 percent sRGB gamut, which means the screen can handle some light graphics work.Its keyboards are also very good. The keys don’t feel mushy, but have decent travel and satisfying clickiness when you strike them. The layout is also spacious–although some people who do a lot of work on Excel might miss a dedicated numeric keypad.I’ve been using a 3-year-old Zenbook 14 OLED with a touchpad that becomes a numeric keypad when needed, which I think would have been a great feature on a business-oriented device like the Expertbook. It’s touchpad is very good–it’s large and responsive, but an added NumberPad feature would make it really stand out.One of the most important features of a business laptop is security, and the Expertbook has plenty of it, including biometric authentication, including a fingerprint scanner and facial recognition, as well as full-disk encryption with BitLocker.The laptop also won’t leave you hanging when you’re working outside the office and don’t have access to a power outlet. This is good for over 9 hours of work in my experience. I’ve been using it for several weeks now and I would start my 8-hour shift (9 hours including breaks) and at the end of the day it would still have around 15-20 percent battery life left.I do most of my work on the browser, with sometimes up to 30 tabs open for monitoring various news sites, social media platforms, YouTube, Teams, several messaging apps, and Spotify on the side. The Expertbook P5 has enough battery life to get me through this workload.Asus is feeling generous too as it has a special Battery Service Package, which lets customers extend the period of coverage beyond the standard battery warranty. If the laptop battery is found to be defective, a replacement battery will be provided — even once every year, if needed, according to Asus.The company also promises all-around and added-value support for businesses of all sizes to minimize IT-management overhead, and ‘Next Business Day Local On-Site Service’ wherein professional technicians repair devices at the customer’s business location with labor and parts.For businesses, the Expertbook P5 is a very solid package. I just wish they also included an OLED screen with the P5. As someone who has been using an OLED laptop for several years now, it can feel a little weird going back to LCD.An OLED display is an option for their Expertbook B series. The P series is meant for small businesses, while the B series is meant for large organizations. Still, an OLED on a business laptop would have been even better.

It is easy to carry around, the ergonomics are on point, and it has enough power to do practically anything I want it to do.
