TAIPEI—One of the more intriguing devices I saw at Computex 2025 was Acer's Predator SpatialLabs View 27 gaming monitor. It's a 4K display that, as the name implies, delivers 3D imagery.

While 3D isn't really anything new-- James Cameron's landmark film "Avatar" even created a fad of 3D TVs and goggles more than a decade ago-- Acer's 3D display has pushed the envelope further. You don't need wonky glasses to watch 3D content, and you don't have to be perfectly centered in front of the monitor either to see your favorite game in three dimensions.

Acer is able to deliver 3D by using eye tracking cameras that deliver two different images to each eye. You can move to the left or right of the monitor and the 3D image changes in response to the change of perspective. The experience is truly fascinating.

And it's not just image, either—what you hear will also depend on whether you move to the left or right, up or down relative to the monitor. Yes, the eye-tracking cameras also send signals to the integrated speakers to lower or raise the volume on the left or right speakers, depending on where your head moves relative to the screen.

While 3D sound is not exactly new tech, you usually find it in multiple speaker systems or higher-end earphones and earbuds. But hearing 3D audio responding to how you move relative to a display is definitely a welcome innovation from Acer.

I can just imagine how it would feel like using this monitor to play games like Last of US or Resident Evil while in a darkened room alone. However I would probably need to sell a kidney to afford its $2000 price tag. Hopefully, the tech becomes more affordable eventually.

The staff at the Acer booth at Computex also told us that the Predator SpatialLabs View 27 can turn some video into 3D, but this was not shown to us at the booth, as there was no video content on the system. I also wondered how this would work for several people trying to watch a video, since the 3D tech is based on eye-tracking. You can't even capture the 3D effect on photos because it only shows up as ghosting effects.

Meanwhile, Acer has launched other devices that also cater to gamers, including its “UltraSpeed” Predator X27U F,5 which tops out at a 500 Hz refresh rate. Another monitor, the Predator X27 X, meanwhile, delivers 4K resolution and a 240 Hz refresh rate.

The Taiwanese tech giant also showed off its new Predator Helios and Triton laptops, which are also geared for games and work visuals.
