MANILA -- The local government of Makati on Tuesday unveiled its "firefighting robots" in a bid to strengthen the city's emergency response.

In a release, the Makati government said they were able to acquire three units of Rosenbauer Smart Firefighting Robot.

This, the city said, sought to provide an alternative in fire response and rescue efforts – most especially those involving hazardous materials – which in turn reduces the risk to rescuers.

"With a maximum payload capacity of 600 kilograms, the robot can serve as a mobile platform to drag injured responders or trapped civilians out of harm's way—minimizing the need to send additional personnel into hazardous zones," the statement read.

"Each robot is designed to withstand extreme heat, poor visibility, and hazardous environments, and equipped with an acoustic warning device that emits audible signals during operations to alert nearby personnel," it added.

Each robot has a remote-controlled mobility operated through joysticks and could be deployed in commercial fires, space rescues, and other complex emergencies, based on the release.
