MANILA -- Smart Telecommunications said is improving its LTE services in Batanes.

In a statement, the telco giant said it has built an LTE network tailored to the unique needs of Batanes, where delivering fast data is challenging because of the area's rugged terrain, its remote location, and scattered islands.

"The province’s frequent exposure to harsh weather conditions also makes it difficult to deploy and maintain traditional telco infrastructure, often requiring specialized equipment and innovative solutions to ensure stable connectivity," Smart said.

Smart said this reflects its commitment to to provide reliable mobile services in remote areas and help bridge the digital divide in the Philippines.

“We are proud to support the government’s digital inclusion agenda by delivering reliable, value-for-money services tailored to the needs of our customers nationwide," said Smart chief operating officer Anastacio Martinez.

"This is part of our broader effort to improve the customer experience...and ensure that no Filipino is left behind in the digital age," he added.

Smart also said its giving its Batanes postpaid and prepaid subscribers 2.5GB for 3 days, with 25 all-net minutes of free calls and 25 free all-net SMS.

In March, Smart also gave away almost 500,000 SIM cards to Filipinos in remote areas to help with the government's digitalization push.
