After years of being confined to shuffle play, Spotify mobile users in the free tier now have more control over their music listening experience.The streaming giant announced on Monday, Sept. 15, that it has released various new perks for people who are not paying for a subscription, which include playing their desired tracks on demand.Previously reserved for its premium users, the Pick &amp; Play, Search &amp; Play, and Share &amp; Play features are now open to Spotify free users on the mobile app, meaning they can play songs they find, listen to tracks from the search bar results, and immediately listen to shared song links.Building fully customized playlists is also no longer limited to those with paid accounts, as free-tier users can create lists with their songs of choice.This will help them curate their “daylist,” which is generated and modified daily by Spotify’s algorithm based on the users’ listening habits.The Lyrics feature that is found below the Now Playing View can be accessed by listeners with free accounts as well.Users without Spotify Premium will also be able to create their playlist covers using the app’s artificial intelligence image generation tool.While the new update has elevated the streaming service’s free experience, several notable features are still limited to premium users, such as ad-free streaming, downloads for offline listening, the ability to queue music, higher audio quality, and free-rein skipping.The upgraded on-demand playing and number of skips, which was previously six per hour,  supposedly still have limitations for ad-supported account holders.Spotify currently offers four different types of paid plans. Account holders with the Individual plan are given one premium account for P169 per month. The Duo plan provides two premium accounts for P229 every month.With the Family plan, users can acquire up to six premium accounts for a monthly payment of P279, while the Student plan grants access to one premium account to those enrolled in accredited higher education institutions for P85 per month.
