<p>MANILA – Apple has announced a big refresh across its hardware ecosystem, headlined by the debut of the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. The new silicon powers a redesigned MacBook Pro lineup, promising a &quot;game-changing&quot; leap in AI performance and processing speed.</p><div><br/></div><div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:960px;display:block" width="960"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1772629260520Apple-MacBook-Pro-M5-Pro-and-M5-Max-chips-260303_big.jpg.large_2x.jpg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Apple introduces its M5 Pro and M5 Max chips for its MacBook Pro laptops. <em>Handout</em></span></span></span></div><div><strong>The M</strong><strong>5 Era: MacBook Pro and Air</strong></div><p>Apple said the new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros utilize a new Fusion Architecture, which delivers 4x AI performance boost over the previous generation.</p><p>The M5 Pro boasts a CPU with 15 or 18 CPU cores and 16 or 20 GPU cores, while the M5 Max has 18 CPU cores along with 32 or 40 GPU cores.</p><p>With up to 18 CPU cores and &quot;Neural Accelerators&quot; integrated into every GPU core, the M5 Max is specifically engineered to run advanced Large Language Models (LLMs) locally, the tech giant said.</p><p>Connectivity sees a major upgrade via the N1 chip, enabling Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. For the first time, the M5 Pro starts at 1TB of storage, while the M5 Max begins at 2TB.</p><p>The MacBook Air also moves to the M5 chip, albeit the base chip. But it will now feature double the starting storage at 512GB instead of 256GB. Driven by the A19 chip and the new Apple-designed C1X cellular modem, the 17e offers 2x faster cellular speeds than its predecessor, Apple said. It features a 48MP Fusion camera and a high-durability Ceramic Shield 2 display. The iPhone 17e&#x27;s entry-level storage has also been doubled to 256GB, starting at P44,990.</p><p>Finally, the iPad Air receives an M4 upgrade, which Apple said gives 50 percent more unified memory and 30 percent faster performance than the M3 model, the company said. </p><p>Available in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes, the iPad Air M4 maintains its starting price of P42,990, which Apple said makes pro-level AI and multitasking more accessible to students and creators.</p><p>All new devices will run on the latest software, including macOS Tahoe and iPadOS 26, fully integrating Apple Intelligence features across the board.</p>
