Amihan to intensify, may bring rains in north, central Luzon

MANILA — The Amihan or the northeast monsoon, shear line, and the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) are expected to bring rains in different parts of the country this weekend, according to weather bureau PAGASA.

Due to the shear line, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms may envelope Eastern Visayas, the Bicol Region, and Quezon.

The shear line is a weather event that happens when cool, dry Amihan and Easterlies meet.

Northern and Central Luzon meanwhile will be affected by intensifying Amihan.

PAGASA said light to moderate rains are expected over Cordillera, Cagayan Valley, and Aurora.

In Mindanao, the ITCZ or the meeting of winds from northern and southern hemispheres will continue to prevail, causing intense afternoon thunderstorms.

The weather bureau forecasts that a low pressure area (LPA) may form within ITCZ which might pass by Visayas and eventually disappear.

Metro Manila will experience a cloudy weather with possible rains.

PAGASA earlier said the Philippines will likely get a break from storms until the end of November after series of destructive cyclones cross the country. -- with report from Ariel Rojas, ABS-CBN News
