Paige Javier, ABS-CBN News/File</div>MANILA -- The Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) said it is prepared for the expected influx of passenger at the terminal beginning Friday, December 20. PITX spokesperson Jason Salvador told ABS-CBN News that it is expecting more than 3 million passengers this holiday season or from December 20 to January 6, 2025. According to Salvador, this figure is a bit higher compared to the 2.6 million people at the terminal on the same period in 2023. “Nakikita na natin na pataas ng pataas yung foot traffic natin lalo’t kulang isang linggo na lang eh magpapasko na. Pero inaasahan talaga natin ang bulusok ng mga tao dito sa a-bente, Biyernes, kung saan mahabang weekend ito, kaya inaasahan natin na hindi bababa sa 3-milyong pasahero ang dadaan sa PITX mula December 20 hanggang January 6,” Salvador said. <div><a class="fr-green" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/weather-traffic/2024/12/17/-youtube-around-3-million-travelers-expected-this-holiday-season-pitx-1057">PITX: Around 3 million travelers expected this holiday season</a></div>Salvador believes the LRT-1 extension also helps increase passengers at the terminal. “Unang-una, may LRT connection na tayo. Nakikita natin na maraming kababayan natin ang na-appreciate yung connection dahil mas convinient na ito na makasakay sila ng bus galing sa tren. Yung mga galing probinsya, pinipili nilang bumaba sa PITX,” said Salvador. PITX officials said there are enough bus units for travelers this year because the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has already issued special permits. “Yung security, number 1 priority natin yan. As much as possible, although medyo gipit na, eh bumili na tayo (ng bus tickets). Huwag po silang mag-alala, sinigurado natin na may sapat tayong bilang ng mga pampublikong sasakyan. Nangako naman ang LTFRB na mag-i-isyu ng special permits kung kinakailangan,” he added. Salvador also advised the public to travel light this holiday season to avoid inconvenience. Meanwhile, the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) announced the suspension of all road works at the expressway starting Thursday, December 19. This is in preparation for the expected increase of vehicle volume starting Friday, December 20. According to Robin Ignacio, head of NLEX Traffic Operations Department, its daily vehicle volume is around 334,000, which is expected to increase by at least 10%. “Sa ngayon, ang NLEX ay meron nang around 334,000 daily average natin, and for SCTEX is 78,000 and yung NLEX Connector Road is 90,000. For the period na mula December 20 hanggang January 6, meron kaming inaasahan na mga around 10% increase ng traffic volume,” Ignacio said. <div><a class="fr-green" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2024/12/16/holiday-carmageddon-congested-ports-expected-to-last-until-mid-january-dotr-1623">Holiday carmageddon, congested ports expected to last until mid-January: DOTr</a></div>Ignacio said an estimated more than 90% of motorists plying NLEX have RIFDs already. “Sana po magpakabit na yung mga motorista natin wala pang RFID bago bumiyahe. Sa estimate natin more than 90% na yung may RFID. Sana po mag-load na sila at sana po siguraduhing meron sapat na load para makatulong mabawasan yung papila papasok ng mga toll plaza lalo na sa mga cash lanes natin,” Ignacio explained. The MMDA also announced the suspension of number coding scheme on December 24, 25, 30 and 31 and on January 1, 2025.
