Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News</div>MANILA -- A private contractor is set to start the construction of a footbridge for the EDSA busway project along EDSA between Julia Vargas Avenue and Bank Drive in Mandaluyong City. In a traffic advisory, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said project construction is expected to last until June 10. The agency added that the footbridge will help commuters to have a direct access from the sidewalk going to the bus carousel station and to the mall. According to MMDA Traffic Engineering Center director Neomi Recio, the project will be funded by SM management in collaboration with the Department of Transportation (DOTr). &quot;It is a collaboration between DOTr and SM - ang SM ang gagastos…magtatayo sila ng concourse bridge, idudugtong nila doon sa bus carousel natin na istasyon doon sa may Ortigas. Meron pa silang for relocation, dapat mag-usap muna si DOTr at si DPWH…ano naman yan, sidewalk lang at tsaka median island. Wala silang gagalawin sa roadway.&quot;MMDA General Manager Procopio Lipana admits this will definitely affect the usual traffic flow in the area, but promises to have a traffic management plan. &quot;Definitely makakaapekto, but we will manage. What is important is close monitoring tayo diyan,&quot; Lipana said. As of Monday, January 27, barriers to be used as fences within the perimeter of the project were already at the center island of EDSA in Mandaluyong. The construction in the area, according to Recio, will be around the clock.
