MANILA -- The North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) will open zipper lanes and promised there would be no road works in anticipation of an “exodus” for the Undas season, its officer said on Wednesday.NLEX will not have any road closures related to road work from today, Oct. 29, until Nov. 3 to help ease the expected heavy traffic in the expressway, said Robin Ignacio, NLEX Corp’s assistant vice president for traffic operations.Aside from this, Ignacio said they will have free towing services for Class 1 vehicles until the “nearest exit.”He advised motorists, meanwhile, to have their RFIDs loaded to avoid the buildup in toll plazas.“Ganun din yung aming mga deployment dito sa ating mga critical toll plazas, nagdagdag din kami ng mga tao, patrol at saka iyong ating mga toll tellers at dito din sa ating mga toll plaza na inaasahan natin na magkakaroon ng pagpila sa mga cash lane,” he said.“Kaya naman kami ay magdadagdag ng mga lanes, magku-convert temporarily iyong ating mga RFID lanes para lang madagdagan iyong ating cash lanes ay gagawin natin ito hangga’t hindi naman naaapektuhan iyong ating mga RFID users,” he said.He said while NLEX could not add any more lanes, they could add collection points.<div>HEAVY TRAFFIC EXPECTED</div>Ignacio said based on their data, heavy traffic could already be expected this afternoon, noting motorists who would want to leave Metro Manila this early.“Baka mayroon na pong maagang magbibiyahe itong afternoon ngayong Wednesday lalong-lalo na sa hapon ng Thursday, October 30 hanggang gabi. Ganoon din iyong October 31, early morning pa lang o madaling araw po ng Friday hanggang hapon,” he said.“Minsan, kapag may mga announcement tayong ganito at nagkasabay-sabay naman mag-a-adjust iyong ating mga maraming motorista, baka lang malihis din sa mga time na ito,” he said.He advised travelers instead to monitor the current traffic situation.Should traffic become heavy, he said they would open a counter-flow lane along the Balintawak area until it reaches the Bocaue or Marilao area.“Puwede naman mag-implement ng counter flow for as long as iyong sa kabilang direction naman po ay hindi ganoon kabigat,” he said.  Free towing services, he said, would be implemented from 6 a.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. next Monday, November 3.They can also contact NLEX’s hotline 135000 if they need responding teams.
