MANILA — Typhoon Uwan maintained its strength as it moved northwestward over the West Philippine Sea on Monday night. As of 10 p.m., the center of Uwan was located 245 kilometers west northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, or 245 kilometers west northwest of Sinait, Ilocos Sur. It will then rapidly weaken into a low pressure area over northern Philippine Sea.The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Monday said the typhoon left at least 2 people dead and displaced 1.4 million.According to the NDRRMC, the typhoon affected 231,000 families or about 837,000 individuals across more than 2,700 barangays. Of these, 426,000 families or 1.4 million individuals were pre-emptively evacuated, with 92,000 families or 318,000 individuals staying in evacuation centers.It added that 1,085 damaged houses were reported in Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, and CARAGA.At least 155 cities and municipalities are still experiencing power interruptions, 13 have water interruptions, and 14 are dealing with communication issues.A total of 71 roads and 26 bridges remain impassable.
