Drone footage released by police in Puyallup, Washington showed the Puyallup River swollen and churning near the N Meridian Bridge on Wednesday (December 9), after forecasters issued a flood warning for the area. Reuters was able to independently verify the location by matching buildings, roads and tree lines to file and satellite imagery of the area. According to police, the warning means flood conditions are imminent, with moderate to heavy rain expected to continue into Thursday (December 10). Police said they were checking on residents living near the river and advising some to evacuate, while urging drivers to watch for water on roads near the Puyallup River and in low-lying areas known to flood. The Riverwalk Trail along the river remains closed until further notice, and public works crews are monitoring conditions as the river continues to rise. Meanwhile, the atmospheric river system has also brought severe storms and river flooding in Gold Bar, Washington and the wider western Washington region. The footage shows homes and vehicles partially submerged by flooding from the Wallace River. On Wednesday morning, the U.S. National Weather Service issued a safety message warning of the potential for landslides, catastrophic flooding along the Skagit and Snohomish Rivers and widespread urban and river flooding throughout western Washington and parts of northern Oregon.
