Potential storm 'Wilma' to make landfall by weekend

A low pressure area being monitored outside the Philippine area of responsibility has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24-48 hours and enter PAR by Wednesday morning, PAGASA said.PAGASA weather forecaster Charmagne Varilla said the potential storm, which is currently 1,280 km east of Eastern Visayas, will be named “Wilma” once it enters PAR. It will be the first tropical cyclone to enter the country this December.Varilla said the potential storm could make landfall in Eastern Visayas and Caraga between Friday night to Sunday morning, bringing rains to Southern Luzon, Visayas and Northern Mindanao.The intertropical convergence zone is bringing cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms to Mindanao while the northeast monsoon will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains to Batanes and Babuyan Islands.Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.
