MANILA — The low pressure area inside the Philippine area of responsibility has a high chance of developing into a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours, PAGASA said early Thursday.

It will be named Auring when it forms as a weak storm inside the PAR.

At 3 a.m., it was located 235 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan and was tracking north northwestward towards Taiwan.

Weather forecaster Grace Castañeda said the potential storm would not stay long inside the PAR and could also dissipate within the next 48 hours.

The LPA will bring scattered rains over Batanes and Cagayan on Thursday, while the southwest monsoon or habagat will affect most of the country.

Monsoon rains are expected in Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro.

Flooding and landslides are possible.

As of 5 a.m., Yellow Level Heavy Rainfall Warning was in effect over Zambales, Bataan, northern Occidental Mindoro, Calamian and Cagayancillo groups of islands, and Palawan.
