MANILA — The low pressure area over the Philippine sea now has a high chance of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours, according to weather bureau Pagasa.

"As of 4:00 a.m. today, 16 July 2025, the low pressure area is being monitored inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility and has a 'HIGH' potential to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours," Pagasa said.

When it happens, the system will be named "Crising."

At 3 a.m. Wednesday, it was located 975 km east of southeastern Luzon.

The potential storm will move northwestward over the Philippine Sea. Landfall is possible over Extreme Northern Luzon late Friday or early Saturday.

Hoisting of wind signals may begin Thursday or Friday.


RAINS


Enhancement of the southwest monsoon may commence today, with monsoon rains expected over Southern Luzon and Visayas.

It may expand over the western portions of Calabarzon and Central Luzon on Friday, when the storm’s rain bands may also start affecting Northern Luzon.

Heavy to intense rains are possible in Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Antique, and Occidental Mindoro Thursday and Friday.

Flooding and landslides are likely in many areas during periods of heavy and prolonged rainfall.
