MANILA — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) conducted a site inspection at the MRT-7 Batasan Station along Commonwealth Avenue on Wednesday, following recent flooding incidents in the area.

According to Rodel Oroña, Officer-in-Charge of the First District Flood Control Operation in Quezon City, their recent inspection revealed factors that may have caused the unusual flooding in the area.

MMDA Engineering IV Officer Danneedee Bobadilla said they will request additional water outlets under the MRT-7 structure.

They said the matter will also be discussed with various agencies to find possible solutions to the problems.

In a press release on Wednesday, the MMDA said that based on the assessment of its Flood Control and Sewerage Management Office, the ongoing construction of MRT-7 has contributed to recent traffic congestion along Commonwealth Avenue following heavy rains and flooding.

A manhole was also built directly above existing drainage pipe culverts, while a footing wall from the construction may have partially obstructed the water flow.

The agency added that MRT-7 columns are limiting access for regular drainage maintenance. Potholes and damaged drainage inlets were also observed in the area.
