Miguel Angelo Sumalinog</span></span></span>MANILA — Authorities on Monday afternoon raised the alert over Marikina River to level 2, which meant that residents in low-lying areas are urged to voluntarily go to evacuation sites as heavy rains caused the river&#x27;s water level to rise. </div><p>The river’s water level reached 16 meters at 2 p.m., according to the Marikina Public Information Office.  </p><p>If the river&#x27;s water level breaches 18 meters, the local government will implement forced evacuation under the third alarm. </p><p>Marikina residents can seek help through the following hotlines, the PIO said.</p><div><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FMarikinaPIO%2Fposts%2Fpfbid02ZrsuPWbtfw1yvDTX6qg7Hm7rj4FPXCDpHsXEdkNhdaMkpmXfgWaP1C4BKYRyPYfSl&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=500" width="500" height="498" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><div><br/></div><p>Marikina River runs in the heartland of Marikina Valley. It passes through heavily populated residential areas and important commercial and industrial areas at its middle and downstream portions.
