MANILA – The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) on Wednesday said it has deployed at least 84 personnel across Metro Manila to assist motorists amid the ongoing inclement weather, particularly in flooded areas where traffic signs are often obscured.

PNP-HPG spokesperson Lt. Nadame Malang said district highway patrol teams were ordered to coordinate with local police units and actively support disaster response efforts. The teams also remain on standby for clearing operations.

Motorcycles and mobile patrol cars have also been deployed to ensure faster response to emergencies.

Malang also reminded motorists who may experience vehicle breakdowns to call 911 for immediate assistance.

“Sinisiguro din naman po ng inyong PNP-HPG na talagang walang maitalang insidente habang may bagyong nananalasa sa ating bansa,” Malang said.

At least one PNP-HPG personnel suffered a heart attack while on duty over the weekend, according to Malang. The agency shouldered the officer’s hospital expenses and provided full medical assistance.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Romando Artes earlier clarified that while the No Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP) is still officially in effect, most violations captured during bad weather are manually reviewed and typically invalidated, especially in flooded areas where traffic signs are not visible.
