Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon defended Monday his decision to <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/weather-traffic/2025/8/9/driver-na-nag-counterflow-sa-skyway-kanselado-habangbuhay-ang-lisensya-2120">permanently revoke the license</a> of a driver whose vehicle was running counterflow on the Skyway over the weekend.Speaking to DZMM, Dizon said he finds it hard to believe the explanation that the driver got lost and was confused while driving on the elevated highway. This is because the vehicle was caught on CCTV making an illegal u-turn on the Bicutan exit to go back on the Skyway.“Southbound siya, nag exit siya ng Bicutan sa Doña Soledad Toll Plaza. Tapos nag illegal U-turn siya at lumipat siya sa kabila. So kahit anong rason, hindi ho pupwede ‘yun,” he said, noting the Land Transportation Office had already issued a show cause order to the driver.The driver is scheduled for an LTO hearing this week.Driving counterflow on traffic does not mean an automatic removal of license, the transportation chief said, but added: “Ibang usapan ito kasi expressway po. Skyway pa, hindi lang ordinaryong expressway.”“Kung titingnan natin ‘yang CCTV footage, hindi po nag menor ang taong ito. Hindi siya nag menor at hindi siya huminto. Tapos nag ba-bright headlights pa siya. Parang sinasabi niya sa kasalubong niya: ‘Tumabi kayo.’ Ito siguro hindi na natin pwede palampasin ‘yung mga ganito,” he said.He said the conversation would be very different if someone was killed because of the incident.“Hindi lang revocation ng lisensiya kundi kulong,” he said.Dizon said he will check if the driver underwent a breathalyzer test for possible alcohol consumption.His reminder to the public: “Ang lisensiya ay hindi po karapatan. Ang lisensiya ay pribilehiyo na ibinibigay po natin pero ang kapalit po noon ay sumunod po tayo sa batas sa kalye.”
